Young people "still have the travel bug"

Young people's desire to travel is as strong as ever, one industry expert has said this week.

According to STA travel, which is UK's leading travel company for students and young people gap years are now featuring more prominently on CVs, as volunteer work and learning experiences are valued by employers.

"The desire of young independent travellers to explore the world is as strong as ever and it's easier now than ever before to plan your trip," said a spokesperson for STA travel.

"Round-the-world tickets are always the most popular but we are seeing a growing demand for bus and rail passes enabling the traveller to see more of a country at their own pace."

According to research released by the Training and Development Agency for Schools in January 2007 32 per cent of graduates now choose to travel before deciding on a career.
