Winter travel insurance customers opt for ski holidays

27/10/2008

More Britons are choosing ski holidays away from the UK this winter, according to figures released by Ski Club Great Britain, it has been reported.

The number of UK holidaymakers opting for winter sports trips is increasing every year, with figures currently reaching around 1.35 million.

Ski Club chief executive officer Caroline Stuart-Taylor said: "We are not surprised that the overall snow sports market has risen again after an excellent snow year and the continued resilience of the snow sports market."

The club's findings revealed that France is the top location for skiers taking 43 per cent of the market and a recent Post Office survey highlighted Romania, Slovakia and Bulgaria as popular destinations among winter travel insurance customers.

However, Bulgaria is one eastern European country that has reported a drop in tourist trade as a result of the frozen economic climate.

The Sofia Echo in Bulgaria reported that despite 35, 000 Brits visiting the country's resorts last year, the number will fall this winter.
