Shop around for car insurance, holiday Brits told

06/08/2008

Holidaying Brits have been advised to shop around for car insurance before taking their vehicles abroad this summer.

According to comparison website moneysupermarket.com, finding the right insurance holiday policy, both for at home and abroad, is imperative and not something people should cut corners on.

Peter Gerrard, head of insurance at moneysupermarket.com, said: "You can still make things easier by shopping around each year and there's other things to help your circumstances where you can get help in keeping it as low as possible."

He added that young drivers can do things to keep costs down, such as volunteer to pay a greater level of excess in the event of an accident in order to gain a lower premium.

Drivers were also warned to give insurance firms accurate details, such as how much mileage they intend to do, as failing to provide this could invalidate their policies.

According to MoneyExpert.com, more than six million people chose to switch car insurance provider over the past six months in an effort to stave off rising car insurance costs.
