Say "I do" with annual travel insurance

13/05/2009

The recent swine flu outbreak in Mexico has wrecked the wedding plans of British couples who had planned to tie the knot in one of the country's holiday resorts, but at least those with the right holiday insurance will not have lost out financially.

As the Foreign Office is continuing to warn against all non-essential travel to Mexico, couples are being advised to look elsewhere for their overseas wedding. Tour operators are citing Caribbean islands such as St Lucia and Antigua as good alternatives.

Couples who had booked wedding packages should be offered alternative holidays by their tour operator if their wedding is imminent, while those who made their own arrangements may be able to make a claim on their travel insurance.

In addition to covering against the cost of their overseas trip, couples marrying abroad are advised to take out specific wedding cover to protect them against the loss of rings, wedding outfits, photographs and gifts.

Wedding cover is included with insurewithease.com's annual multi-trip insurance, which starts at less than £50 for worldwide cover for a couple. It can also be added to any single trip Gold policy sold by insurewithease for a small additional fee.

Wedding cover includes up to £250 per person for rings, £1,000 per person for wedding outfits, £1,000 for wedding gifts and up to £750 for photographs or video recordings.
