Best travel agents in Britain are not on the high street

26/10/2009

Britain's best travel agent is a company that doesn't have a single shop on any high street.

Travel Counsellors (www.travelcounsellors.co.uk), which employs homeworkers, was voted as the UK's Best Travel Agent by The Guardian and The Observer.

Readers said Travel Counsellors was their preferred travel agent for the third year. The company also scooped the award in 2006 and 2007.

Travel Counsellors founder and chairman David Speakman said: We are delighted to receive the prestigious title of Best Travel Agent.

""The fact that this is the third time we have won this award is a fantastic achievement, and is a public acknowledgement from our customers that the level of service we offer is a cut above the competition.""

More than 19,000 Guardian and Observer readers were asked to rate the quality of the service they received on their holidays and those who booked through Travel Counsellors gave the company an overall score of 99.7 per cent.

Travel Counsellors employs travel agents who work independently, many from their own homes. Many are women fitting in work around family and other commitments.

Unlike high street agents, Travel Counsellors can be contacted outside normal working hours, either via email or on the phone.

A network of more than 1,000 travel consultants can be contacted initially via the company's website at www.travelcounsellors.co.uk

Visitors can search for a consultant by their name or by keying in their postcode to find one in their area.

Operating across seven countries, it is in fact the largest home-based travel company in the world.

The Travel Counsellors website also includes destination features and holiday suggestions.
