Where to spend New Year abroad

For the ultimate New Year's Eve party, why not spend New Year abroad? Destinations all over the world will be hosting their very own New Year's Eve celebrations and most culminate in a fantastic fireworks display that will light up the sky at midnight.
 

Paris

 

Spend New Year abroad on the Champs-Elysees for a great night out that you'll never forget. Celebrations kick off at 9pm. The Eiffel Tower is the centre point for a huge midnight light display. You can see this from the Champs-Elysees, but you might prefer to head to the tower for a close up look.

 

The Metro offers free services on New Year's Eve, but it's likely the trains will be heaving. Choose accommodation near the city centre so that you can walk to the festivities.

Prague

 

Prague has a great party atmosphere on New Year's Eve. There are two firework displays to choose from at midnight. Station yourself near Charles Bridge, Prague Castle or Petrin Hill to enjoy the fireworks over the river, or head over to the Old Town Square, which has an electric atmosphere. If you're enjoying the fireworks in the Old Town, stay vigilant as fireworks are sometimes set off by the locals.

 

There are many different ways of spending New Year's Eve in Prague. Some of the local restaurants have special New Year's Eve menus and bars and clubs stay open late. Some restaurants provide bottles of champagne for diners to take with them when they view the fireworks. If you want to spend the evening in a restaurant, book early to avoid disappointment.

New York City

 

Head to New York City and you'll have a whole host of New Year's Eve celebrations to choose from. There'll be countless bars and clubs where you can spend the night partying until long past midnight.

 

New Year's Eve in Times Square is always a spectacular event. Around one million people pack out the square, creating an explosive atmosphere. At midnight, the illuminated New Year's Eve Ball will descend on Times Square, a tradition that dates back to 1907.

Sydney

 

If you want to spend New Year abroad and escape the cold, head to the magnificent New Year's Eve celebrations in Sydney. A whole programme of events will keep you occupied. At 5pm, an aerial display will take to the skies over Sydney Harbour. Then at 8pm, witness a unique smoking ceremony performed by the vessels in the harbour.

 

Sydney's New Year's Eve celebrations have two firework displays; a family display at 9pm with music from children's movies and the world renowned midnight display. The midnight firework display is simply spectacular, with rockets taking off from barges, buildings and the famous Sydney Harbour Bridge.

The night will also be lit up by the Harbour of Light Parade when boats will grace the harbour adorned with colourful lights.

Cape Town

 

Spend New Year abroad at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town and you are sure to have an entertaining night! The New Year's Eve Bash is the biggest New Year's Eve party in the city and the waterfront is a great venue. From 9pm till late, live music and street performers will provide hours of entertainment.

 

All of the entertainment on the V&A Waterfront is free and there'll certainly be a great party atmosphere right into the small hours.
