Christmas is a "great time" to visit London

07/08/2008

Christmas has been described as a "great time" to visit London by one expert this week.

According to tourist organisation for the city VisitLondon, late December brings a whole array of events to the capital, which Brits looking for a city break later in the year may want to take advantage of.

Hannah Collingbourne, PR manager in the UK for VisitLondon, said: "You've got lots of great events, you've got the Christmas lights, Christmas markets, ice skating rinks that crop up in iconic locations all over the city, places like the Tower Of London, Kew Gardens and Greenwich."

She added that there are some lesser-known events happening around the capital, such as the Greenwich Christmas market, which are well worth a visit.

VisitLondon reports that around 25.45 million people went to London in 2007, with overseas tourism making up the largest proportion.

Furthermore, overnight leisure visitor spending totalled £4.4 billion in 2007.
