Without insurance Brits could be "out of pocket"

05/08/2008

Without travel insurance, holidaying Brits could find themselves "substantially out of pocket" one expert has warned.

According to the Daily Telegraph newspaper, while more people will be holidaying on home soil this summer in order to save cash they should not cut corners on their cover.

Simon Lamble, spokesman for comparison website Confused.com, told the newspaper: "While it is very tempting to try to save at every opportunity when money gets tight, the range of problems you might encounter while travelling ... is huge."

He added that spending a "few pounds" on protection against unexpected events could be essential for holidaymakers' who find themselves in a potentially "very costly situation".

In related news, British tour operator Thomson has denied that its launch of self-catering accommodation from £2 per night is an indication of a market downturn.

The firm said that its bookings remained robust, despite the credit crunch that is prompting many Brits to budget.
