Virgin Atlantic chief slams Heathrow Airport

07/12/2007

The chief executive of Virgin Atlantic has launched a stinging attack on under-fire Heathrow Airport.

Latterly, the transport hub has come in for increasing criticism over the standards of service it provides from industry sources such as the Competition Commission as well as disgruntled members of the public.

Now Steve Ridgway, Virgin Atlantic's chief executive, has joined the chorus of disapproval with a series of scathing remarks at an Aviation Club lunch, the Telegraph reports.

He said: "Heathrow's position as a pre-eminent airport is being challenged as never before. Heathrow is a horrible experience; it is ruining air travel.

"How frustrating is it for a crew who work hard on overnight flights from other parts of the world to find our passengers having to queue for two hours at immigration."

News of Mr Ridgway's remarks come as BAA recently announced that during 2006 Heathrow passengers were the least happy of all its customers over check in and flight delays.
