The hotel oscars reveal all

Travel review website tripadvisor.com has revealed that Rudding Park Hotel (www.ruddingpark.co.uk) in Harrogate, north Yorkshire, is the best in the UK.

Users of the site said the privately-owned luxury country house hotel was not only the best in Britain but also one of the best in the world.

In second place was The Manor Coach House in Worcester (www.manorcoachhouse.co.uk), which also came third in the World Best Bargain Hotel category.

London's uber-stylish The Soho Hotel (www.firmdale.com) was judged to be the best in the capital, but on the whole the city fared badly as not one London property made it into the UK's top 25 ranking.

Alison Copus, Vice President Marketing Europe for TripAdvisor said: With the Olympics just two years away it's worrying not to see a single London hotel in the Top 25 UK list.

"Come 2012 all eyes will be on our capital city and London hotels are clearly going to have to raise their game to make sure they provide world-class accommodation."

The TripAdvisor Travellers' Choice Hotel awards are based on millions of reviews and opinions from real travellers around the world.

The UK's most family friendly hotel was judged to be The Luna and Simone Hotel(www.lunasimonehotel.com) in London, which also made it into the World's Top Ten Family list.

Rather unusually for London, the hotel offers quad rooms, which cost from £130 per night.

Another UK property to make the European Top Ten Family Hotel list was the Avalon Beach in Dorset (www.avalon-beach-hotel.co.uk).
