Let travel insurance soothe your holiday sunburn

30/06/2009

Nine million Britons get sunburn every time they go abroad and one in 10 get so badly burned they have to see a doctor, which means travel insurance is vital to make sure they don't end up burned and broke.

One in 10 British holidaymakers admit to burning twice during the same trip, which means that many of us still aren't getting the message about sun protection.

According to a recent poll, women are three times more likely than men to get sun burn. While most people blamed their 'lobster tans' on the fact that they fell asleep in the sun, many admitted they had failed to apply sunscreen.

Martin Crisp, superintendent pharmacist for Superdrug said: ""More than half of all holidaymakers admit to being burned at least once while away from home and it's staggering that more than 10% then don't learn their lesson and head back out into the sun for another session.

""A burn from the sun can be more harmful than a burn from a hot pan or a fire; not only is there the immediate discomfort and pain, sun burn is known to lead to skin cancer which can be fatal.""
