Holidaymakers to be given greater financial protection

06/10/2009

ABTA members agreed last week to extend the financial protection they offer to holidaymakers to cover hotel bookings.

The Association's members voted in favour of accommodation providers who are ABTA members accepting responsibility for bookings made through ABTA travel agents.

This change followed a number of instances earlier this year where customers were requested to pay again, following the failure of a retailer.

The move means that if an ABTA (www.abta.com/about/news) agency fails, the accommodation provider will honour any bookings it has received.

ABTA chief executive Mark Tanzer said I am pleased to see that the membership has re-affirmed its commitment to the principle of financial protection and the obligations that ABTA members have to customers.

""In a fast-changing commercial environment, it is important that customers continue to have confidence in booking with ABTA members.""
