Gadget to improve parking at Heathrow

12/11/2007

Struggling to remember where you left your car when you return to Heathrow Airport from your holiday could soon be a thing of the past - thanks to a new device to be introduced next year.

The gadget will cut out car park-related travel trauma by scanning the number-plates of vehicles when they arrive at parking areas and printing out a ticket containing the car's details.

On returning, visitors will insert the ticket into a specially designated machine which will print off detailed directions as to the location of their car.

Developed by Siemens, the device will be in place as of March 2008 at the short-term car park at Terminal Five.

Hugh Fenn, a spokesman for BAA, told the Daily Mail: "Talking to our customers, the things they have found really important are the speed of finding a space and locating their car when they get back.

"Understandably they want to do that quickly. This technology is able to ensure people do that because it knows where their number-plate is parked."
