Foreign Office relaxes travel warnings for Egypt

11/11/2013

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has relaxed its travel advice for British nationals heading to Egypt.

The change of advice means that British visitors to Egypt can once again enjoy the spectacular sights at Aswan, Alexandria and Luxor.

This is the first relaxation in the advice for travellers to Egypt since the violence surrounding the overthrow of Mohamed Morsi began in July.

Please note that the Foreign Office continues to advice against visits to Cairo, the Giza Pyramids and the Sinai Peninsula, excluding the Red Sea resorts.

“Our travel advice for Egypt has now changed in line with the reduction in the level of violence,” the FCO said in a statement. “We continue to urge British Nationals already in Egypt to follow the instructions of the local authorities and obey curfews where they are in place. There remains a high threat from terrorism throughout Egypt. This has not changed.”

Foreign Office advice and your travel insurance

If you are planning a trip to Egypt you should check the latest travel advice from the Foreign Office before you travel and make sure that you have appropriate travel insurance in place.

Please note: Choosing to travel to an area against Foreign Office advice could invalidate your travel insurance.
