FCO warns of floods in New South Wales & Queensland

30/01/2013

As the FCO warns of the flood risk in Australia we're talking about the travel insurance cover available if your holiday is effected by extreme weather.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) is warning British travellers in Australia to keep up to date with the impact of torrential rain and flooding in the states of Queensland and New South Wales.

The FCO is advising travellers to listen to local media and emergency services before travelling due to severe flooding in several major cities and towns.

It has been reported that more than 1500 people had to be evacuated from the city of Bunderberg in Queensland as the Burnett River burst its banks.

There are also concerns that the Clarence River could flood the city of Grafton in New South Wales where 2,500 have been told to evacuate.

How can travel insurance help in the event of extreme weather?

Wherever and whenever you travel it's important to make sure you have adequate travel insurance cover for your destination, and Australia is no different. It may feel like a home from home, but travel insurance Australia is vital, most importantly to cover medical costs and it can also provide cover in the event of extreme weather or floods.

When choosing your travel insurance, check that it will cover you for delayed departure or abandonment of a holiday due to extreme weather conditions delaying your flight's departure from the UK.

Travel insurance can also help if extreme weather, such as the current floods in Queensland and New South Wales, strike whilst you are away.

Catastrophe cover is designed to provide cover for additional, irrecoverable travel or accommodation costs if you are forced to move from your pre-paid, pre-booked holiday accommodation as a result of unforeseen events such as flood, fire, earthquake, hurricane and medical epidemic. The cover is intended to enable you to continue your holiday in alternative accommodation, or if that's not possible, return to the UK.

Insurewithease.com includes catastrophe cover in all its single trip and annual policies. Check your policy wording for full details.

For additional cover for cancellation or additional transport/accommodation expenses caused by natural catastrophes including floods, hurricanes and earthquakes consider adding Natural Catastrophe Cover to your travel insurance policy.
