Families and older travellers "choosing adventure holidays"

12/11/2007

Although still largely the preserve of backpackers in the 20-30 age range, adventure holidays are increasingly finding favour with older travellers and families, it has been claimed.

According to Matt Hodgson, manager at Travel Nation, more and more families are opting for unconventional, adventurous jaunts and are prepared to pay more than they would for a beach holiday for the uniqueness of the experience the trips afford.

He said: "More and more of the larger adventure companies are featuring family trips in their brochures. It's still a small percentage, but there is definitely an increasing market there.

"It's a relatively expensive family holiday; but the experience the family is getting is varied and [it's] something a bit out of the ordinary, so value for money-wise I'd support it all the way. But it is a bit more expensive, obviously, than going to the beach somewhere."
