Coronavirus Travel Insurance: Our Cover Explained

FCDO advice & traffic lights: When is travel insurance valid?

Travel insurance policies from Insurewithease.com, like most in the industry, will cover you to travel abroad provided the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) is not advising against all or all but essential travel to your destination, and it is not on the department of transport’s red list.

That means we can cover destinations which are classified green and amber in the traffic light system, so long as the FCDO says that it is safe to go.

Travel insurance for future holidays

You can buy travel insurance now for any destination to protect your future holidays.

Our policies can be purchased up to 20 months in advance of your trip, so that means we can cover future holidays starting right up to the beginning of 2023.

Buying insurance as soon as you have booked your holiday means you will have cover in place if you need to cancel the trip for the following reasons:

Illness (including Covid-19 if you have a Covid+ policy), injury, redundancy, requirements of HM forces, jury service or court appearances.

We are flexible if your holiday doesn’t go ahead as planned.

If your trip dates or destination changes due to Covid-19, we can move your single trip policy to match – with no admin charge.

The new dates must be within 20 months of the original issue date. If the new trip is for a longer period, to a different destination or more than 12 months from the original issue date, there may be an additional premium due to increased risk.

What is covered for Coronavirus/COVID-19?

  • Medical and Repatriation up to £10 million per person

To give you the confidence to travel all our policies provide cover for emergency medical treatment and repatriation (getting you home) if you catch COVID-19 whilst you are abroad.

  • Cancellation cover if you contract COVID-19

Policies purchased after 21 August 2020 also include cover for cancellation if you or anyone insured on your policy catch COVID-19 within 14 days of travel.

This means that if you are required to take a pre-travel PCR test as part of the entry requirements for your destination and that test comes back positive, even if you showed no symptoms, you would be covered to cancel your holiday and make a claim.

There is no cover under any other section of the policy for anything caused by or relating to Covid-19/Coronavirus/SARs-COV-2, any mutation of Covid-19/Coronavirus/SARs-COV-2 or any pandemic or fear or threat of any of the above.

  • Overseas return quarantine (optional cover)

If you are travelling independently, rather than on a package trip, our Over Seas Return Quarantine option can provide additional cover if you contract COVID-19 abroad and are unable to travel home when expected.
It provides additional travel insurance cover if you are denied boarding on your return journey due to having or being suspected of having an infectious disease (including COVID-19).

You can claim up to £40 per person per day (up to a maximum of £560) towards additional accommodation expenses, as well as up to £300 (Europe), £500 (Worldwide) per person towards the cost of return transport home.
Please note: This cover is not applicable if you have booked a package holiday. In that situation you should contact your tour operator for support.
