Caravanning is for all, says expert

23/01/2008

Caravanning is for people "from all walks of life" and should not be dismissed as a holiday for older people, it has been claimed.

The number of people going on caravanning holidays is on the increase and it now accounts for 19 per cent of all holidays taken in the UK, said the Caravan Club.

Nikki Nichol, head of PR for the Caravan Club, said: "There is a misconception that caravanning is suited to older travellers. It's very popular with families and younger couples and people going off for the weekend with a surf board."

She added that caravan holidays were ideal for families with babies as there are better facilities and it is easier to transport all the equipment needed.

Ms Nichol said that for the cost of a family holiday abroad people can purchase a "really, really good second-hand caravan".

The main reasons people enjoy caravanning is the freedom, the community and the flexibility it offers of when you can go on holiday, she said.

A survey by the British Holiday and Home Parks Association has shown that half of all people in the UK have been on a caravan holiday.
