Caravanners should insure themselves against floods

02/04/2008

Caravanners should insure themselves against flooding, one industry expert has advised this week.

Safeguard Insurance highlighted last summer's heavy downfalls as a good example of why caravanners need a decent insurance policy.

Furthermore, figures released by The Caravan Club, revealing that 19 per cent of Brits now take this type of holiday – making it the most popular type of paid for break in the UK – highlighted the extent of this issue.

Rita Sadler, of Safeguard Insurance, said: "One of the things to remember when you're talking about caravan insurance is that it's not mandatory.

"Because it's not mandatory, [caravanners] think they don't have to [consider] it… I wouldn't want to think that I'd spent a lot of money on a caravan and then it goes up in flames or it's stolen."

She added that insuring a caravan may cost different amounts in certain areas, depending how much of a risk they are considered to be.

The British Holiday and Home Parks Association recently conducted a survey, which found that caravan parks generate an annual tourism spend of £3.1 billion and account for 28 per cent of all holiday bed nights in the UK.
