12/10/2007

BMI is to launch 17 new routes to destinations across the Middle East and north Africa later this month as part of the airline's biggest ever expansion plan.

Beginning on October 28th will be flights to destinations including Amman in Jordan, Beirut in Lebanon, Baku in Azerbaijan, and Tehran in Iran from Heathrow.

The airline will also fly from its London hub to, among others, Addis Ababa in Ethiopia, Aleppo and Damascus in Syria, Ankara in Turkey and Khartoum in Sudan.

And from November 4th there will also be a new direct service to the Egyptian capital Cairo which the airline hopes will appeal to both leisure and business travellers.

BMI's chief executive Nigel Turner said that as well as these new flights there will also be a number of other additions in the coming months.

"We have also identified a number of key destinations which we are eager to serve from Heathrow, including Kiev, Minsk, Kuwait City, Lahore, Tel Aviv, Dammam and Sana'a as well as increasing flights from Heathrow to Moscow," he said.
