Volunteering abroad can build business skills

Volunteers with business skills are being sought in foreign countries by Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO).

The VSO, which is celebrating its 50th birthday this year, offers those from occupations as diverse as plastic surgeons, teachers and boat builders the chance to travel while building on their business skills.

Neera Dhingra, a spokesperson for VSO said: "The range of volunteers is wider than you might think.

"As well as the education staff and healthcare professionals, we also need business and management skills and they can be found everywhere from business to working in public sectors to working in charities, so it's much wider than people might first imagine."

Since its conception, over 32,000 people have volunteered for VSO in 119 countries, helping combat issues such as the spread of HIV.

Recently, respected names such as Jon Snow, Kate Adie and George Alagiah have lent their support to the organisation.

According to the VSO, the average age of its volunteers is 41.
