Brazilian airline Varig has added two new routes to Rio de Janeiro's Tom Jobim International Airport.
The flights are priced at £631 and stop off at San Paulo's Guarulhos International Airport en route.
Lincoln Amano, Varig commercial director, said: "Launching this new route to London is another important step in Varig's international expansion plan, which already includes flights from key European cities in France, Germany and Italy."
News of the flights comes as more and backpackers are choosing Brazil as a holiday destination, attracted by the prospect of canoe trips down the Amazon river and the spectacular sights of Rio de Janeiro.
The coastal city features world-famous attractions such as Copacabana beach, Sugarloaf mountain and the statue of Christ the Redeemer.
Other south American holiday destinations offered by Varig include Bogota, Buenos Aires and Caracas.
Varig also operates flights in Europe, with destinations including Frankfurt, Paris and Rome.
