Turkey is a 'rapidly growing hotspot'

Turkey has been described as a "rapidly growing hotspot" for luxury tourism, this week.

Regional manager for hotel chain Barceló Hotels and Resorts, Enrique Acrich Eckert, made the claims, adding that high-end tourism in Turkey will continue to grow.

Mr Eckert explained: "We are convinced of huge but fairly undeveloped potential in the Turkish luxury tourism sector."

He concluded that, like its Mediterranean neighbours and other recent EU accession countries, Turkey is an emerging holiday destination, which offers lower prices to money-conscious tourists.

In related news, at a conference this weekend Turkey's minister for culture and tourism, Ertugrul Gunay, announced the nation's plan to attract 50 million holidaymakers by 2023.

The ambitious plan was backed up by figures which revealed that between 2003 and 2007 the number of tourists visiting Turkey grew by ten million.

Furthermore, Mr Gunay stated that while global tourism is growing at a rate of 6.5 per cent, in Turkey it is increasing by 18 per cent annually.
