A traveller who sneaked his dog onboard a Virgin Atlantic flight was rumbled after his singing failed to drown out his pooch's barks.
The unnamed owner, who maintains he did not know that taking animals onboard flights is forbidden, had tried to mask the presence of his pet by singing, according to a report from holidayhypermarket.com.
However, after holidaymakers alerted air crew to barks emanating from the bag in the overhead locker, the game was up.
Sympathetic staff then gave the dog the run of the plane for the duration of the flight.
A member of the flight crew said: "It was an unusual flight to say the least, with a small dog running up and down the aisles. Most people seemed to think it was quite funny."
News of the stowaway dog comes as a Euromonitor International for World Travel Market report predicted that demand for pet-friendly holidays is set to grow by six per cent annually between now and 2012.
