Safety is first in ski helmet design for winter travellers

23/10/2008

People planning a skiing holiday this year can rest assured that they will hit the slopes in style as ski helmet design goes daring, it has been suggested.

Winter travel insurance customers will be able to stand out with new animal print designs and crazy fruit-shaped helmets, but high-fashion lovers are likely to go for the fur-covered trend, the Earth Times reports.

Self-conscious skiers may opt for streamlined forms which, having no impact on skiing performance, merely prevent heads from looking too big.

But safety must always come first according to the German-based Safe in the Snow Initiative which has outlined the importance of a well-structured modern helmet.

New models weigh less but provide the best protection.

In-built ventilation systems are a must for travel insurance customers as skiers who get sweaty run the risk of freezing.

But with the current economic climate freezing up, it is not surprising that skiing destinations have reported a drop in tourist trade.

The Sofia Echo in Bulgaria reported that despite 35, 000 Brits visiting the country's resorts last year, the number will fall this winter.
