Passengers left holding worthless tickets following the collapse of Italian airline MYair will be able to claim a refund if they bought scheduled airline failure insurance.
Other passengers are being offered special fares to and from Spain and France by Spanish airline Vueling, but they will still be left considerably out of pocket.
Vueling is offering them one-way tickets to and from Milan, Rome, Fiumicino and Venice for €95 to €130, including taxes and charges, for flights up to October 25.
Passengers who bought seats with a credit card (but not a debit or charge card) may be able to claim a refund from their card issuer, but this is usually only the case for tickets costing £100 or more.
MyAir's operating licence was suspended by the Italian Civil Aviation Authority due to financial difficulties. It is the latest in a long line of airlines to have gone under in the last 12 months.
Standard travel insurance does not usually compensate passengers for the collapse of an airline, but passengers buying their cover from insurewithease have the option of taking out scheduled airline failure cover for a small additional fee.
