Follow tennis star Andy Murray to Melbourne

02/02/2010

If you were one of the millions of British tennis fans who got up early on Sunday to watch Andy Murray slog it out against tennis ace Roger Federer in the Australian Open in Melbourne, maybe you are now mulling over the possibility of a trip Down Under.

Certainly that's what Aussie holiday specialist Austravel is hoping tennis fans are thinking, and as an added incentive it has slashed the cost of its holidays to Melbourne.

It is offering a nine-day package to Melbourne from £995, a saving of £300. The price includes return flights, accommodation and car hire. There is also an option to take a tour of the Rod Laver tennis arena, scene of Andy Murray's defeat at the weekend.

The tour costs £59 per person, but Murray fans may not be able to stomach looking at the court where their hero cried with frustration after failing to win a single set against Federer in the final of the tennis Australian Open.

The package is valid only for selected dates in May and anyone who is interested should hurry - the discount only applies to bookings made by Wednesday, February 3.

The eight-night package includes a self-drive along the Great Ocean Road, which is considered to be one of the best coastal drives in the world.

Melbourne, the capital city of the state of Victoria, is renowned for being one of the world's liveliest cities although it is often overlooked. Victoria has some of Australia's finest national parks.
