Heathrow Airport is facing delays after a plane crashed while performing an emergency landing.

The Boeing 777 was arriving from Beijing when it had to perform the emergency procedure at 12:45 GMT.

The airport closed the southern runway for two hours, with flights still running from the northern runway, the southern runway has since been re-opened but only for departing planes.

All British Airways short haul flights have been cancelled with others being delayed, according to the BBC website.

Flight number BA038 had 136 passengers and 16 crew on board who were immediately evacuated, while the emergency services attended the scene, six people have been taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Passengers are being advised to contact their airline to find out if their flight has been delayed, and British Airways has set up a phone line for concerned relatives.

Prime minister Gordon Brown's plane, destined for China, was delayed due to the crash.
