Brits sloping off for skiing holidays

26/10/2007

Britons are choosing skiing holidays in increasing numbers, it has been revealed.

According to figures from the Ski Club of Great Britain, over 1.31 million UK holidaymakers have taken holidays over the last 12 months – a rise of 3.4 per cent.

Ski Club chief executive officer Caroline Stuart-Taylor told travelmole.com: "We are not surprised the market has risen again as many people are looking for more from their holiday, and skiing or boarding fits the bill perfectly.

"It seems as though people are taking more than one snowsports holiday a year and hitting the slopes for a weekend break as well as skiing for a week. "

He added: "The internet and no-frills airlines will have helped this, but at the same time the tour operator market continues to perform well."

The country attracting the most custom from British winter sports enthusiasts is France, the Ski Club's figures reveal - with 43 per cent of Brits opting to pursue their interest in skiing hotspots such as Gstaad, Chamonix and St Moritz.
