Yeti prints found in Nepal

06/12/2007

Backpackers planning adventure holidays in Nepal could get more adventure than they bargained for - since according to an American TV host, at least, the Yeti is on the prowl.

John Gates was filming a show for the Sci-Fi Channel when, he claims, he and his crew came across a series of suspiciously large footprints in the Himalayas.

The prints are claimed to be a mammoth 13 inches long and having been captured on film and cast by the crew to be sent back to the US for analysis.

Mr Gates said: "We were doing night investigation near a riverbed about three nights ago when one of our guides first saw the prints and alerted us.

"We cast the footprints and we all feel a little bit unable to explain what we really saw."

The crew came across the prints while hiking from Lukla, 250km northwest of Nepal's capital, Kathmandu.

News of the find comes as Hong Kong-based carrier Dragon Air announced it is to resume flights to Kathmandu in response to its recovering popularity as a holiday destination.
