Top marks for independent tour operators

10/01/2008

Smaller tour operators outperform their larger rivals when it comes to customer satisfaction, it has been revealed.

A new study from Holiday Which? found that nine independent tour operators racked up customer satisfaction scores of 80 per cent or higher.

Conversely, Airtours, Crystal Holidays, First Choice and Thomas Cook, all of which are owned by either by Thomas Cook or TUI Travel, finished near the bottom of the study.

Holiday Which? Editor Lorna Cowan welcomed the findings, which she said are indicative that competition is improving the lot of UK travellers.

She added: "With the rise in the number of do-it-yourself holidays, none of the tour operators are in a position to rest on their laurels.

"However, it's great to see the independent tour operators performing so well in the face of big competition. Thomas Cook and TUI Travel could learn a lot from Titan or Riviera Travel about how to keep their customers happy."

The two tour operators topping the customer satisfaction table were Titan and Riviera Travel.
