'Surge' in bookings with ATOL members recorded

More people are booking flights with ATOL-affiliated operators following the collapse of several airlines, it has been claimed.
Derek Moore, chairman of the Association of Independent Tour Operators, said that XL going bust has prompted many consumers to consider whether their bookings made directly with budget airlines are protected.
Mr Moore asserted that there has been a "surge" in bookings made with members of ATOL, which protects customers from losing money and helps them to return home if they become stranded when their operator goes out of business.
Many are beginning to "see the benefits" of booking with a tour operator, rather than purchasing different parts of their holidays separately, the expert commented.
"This is the time when money may be tight for some people and there is a lot of economic uncertainty, make sure your holiday is protected and book with a recognisable tour operator," he remarked.
Last month, travel insurance customers were warned by the Association of British Insurers that standard policies do not always cover the failure of a tour operator or airline.
However, there are currently policies available on the market that will provide such cover, those seeking travel insurance may be interested to learn.
