Student sues college over Sri Lanka trip

A tourism student is suing his college claiming to have suffered injuries on a group study trip to Sri Lanka, in a case that underlines importance of travel insurance.

James Sherdian, 50, told the court that he suffered injuries while travelling barefoot through a rainforest on the trip in 2001.

In so doing, his exposed feet were attacked by black leeches.

During the six years since the attack, Mr Sheridan claims to have suffered from a condition akin to malaria, coupled with feverishness and sweating, that has impaired his ability to seek employment.

He told BBC Online: "I haven't been able to get a proper job since because of the health problems I have suffered since the trip.
"It has affected my life very seriously since then and it has made it very difficult for me to find work."

The Swansea Institute is contesting Mr Sheridan's charges.
