STA urges travellers to get insurance

29/08/2008

STA travel has urged holidaymakers to thoroughly evaluate their insurance options before heading off on their gap year.

It noted that backpackers should consider what they will be doing during their time abroad and the sort of cover that will insure them for theft and medical treatment in these instances.

A spokesperson for STA travel said: "Every travel insurance policy is different offering the consumers different inclusions and levels of cover."

"It is important for a customer to assess their needs when it comes to travel insurance, for instance assessing the overall value of the items they are travelling with," the representative added.

The firm continued to stress how essential travel insurance is for the thousands of graduates and young people who head abroad each year, with the misconception that "one size fits all".

British Muslims are another group of UK insurance consumers who have been highlighted this month as potentially misinformed when it comes to taking out cover.

According to the Islamic Bank of Britain (IBB), many British Muslims are unaware that their insurance policies may not follow the rulings of their faith.
