'Protect family pets' with insurance

29/09/2008

No matter what the species, a pet quickly becomes a member of the family, a commentator asserts.

Amy Nichol Smith, writing for news source the Monitor, states the first ever pet insurance policy sold was to the canine TV star Lassie more than 20 years ago.

Since then, pet insurance has become a vital aspect of caring for animal loved ones, whether cats, dogs or snakes, she continues.

"Pet insurance allows you to take care of your pet without worrying about how it may affect you financially, since the cost to you will be a fraction of the total," Ms Nichol Smith adds.

Britons with pet rabbits were recently warned of a growing myxomatosis threat to their pets.

The PDSA warned there has been an increase in the number of cases reported in England, causing it to urge owners to vaccinate their animals to save themselves a distressing and costly time.
