People more adventurous on honeymoons

01/02/2008

Honeymooners are looking to combine adventurous trips with relaxing holidays, according to an expert.

Couples are looking for honeymoons like a safari in South Africa followed by a beach break, said wedding experts Hitched.co.uk.

Francesca Moore, the website's spokesperson, said: "As airlines have stop-over points, you can get two places in with just one flight.

"Some couples like to do the traditional style of honeymoon, relax on a deserted beach for two weeks, whereas others opt for the more adventurous type of trip."

Some people choose very adventurous honeymoons, like walking on the Great Wall of China or touring New Zealand, she said.

However, Ms Moore said that exotic, romantic destinations like the Bahamas, Barbados and the Virgin Islands are still popular.

She also said that Las Vegas is seeing a lot of honeymooners at the moment, with people even tying the knot there.

Recently St Lucia was voted the leading honeymoon destination in 2007, at the World travel Awards.
