17/03/2008

The availability of new flights to Tel Aviv in Israel is proving popular, according to bmi's chief executive.

Announced last week, the daily flights to the city from Heathrow Airport form part of the airline's plans for future expansion

Nigel Turner claimed that 20,000 seats had already been booked for the next few months, the Financial Mail reports.

travel insurance customers may be interested to know that the expert attributed the popularity of the flights to both price and the draw of Tel Aviv as a tourist destination.

Launching the flights last week he said: "Tel Aviv is a key destination in the Middle East and I'm delighted that today we launch daily non-stop services."

The company said that the opportunity to participate in efforts to create new links between the UK and Israel is "extremely exciting".

It is looking forward to being involved in helping to promote "competitive air links" between the two nations he added.
