Many give false info for insurance

New research has revealed that a significant number of people give incorrect information when buyingtravel insurance, sometimes just to save time.

According to Sainsbury's Bank, 1.12 million people have knowingly given false information, while 12.59 million admitted to guessing at information when taking out cover.

Some 12 per cent of people surveyed said they had given false information when purchasing travel insurance, something the company's head of insurance advised against.

"Although it may seem like a good idea in an effort to save time, it could become a real headache later when they find they have invalidated their claim," Steve Johnson remarked.

People buying insurance ought to go back and check details thoroughly before committing to a purchase, he advised.

In related news, Ian Crowder, public relations manager for the AA, recently urged people taking their cars abroad this year to ensure that their policies provide them with adequate cover.

Failure to do so may mean that a driver involved in an accident overseas could incur significant costs, he stated.
