Lousiana targets gourmet tourists

11/01/2008

A new service will enable gourmet travellers to plan tours of New Orleans' and the state of Louisiana and navigate the wide range of food online, it has been announced.

Dubbed Louisiana Country Trails, the online tool will guide visitors around by suggesting a series of culinary trails they might like to follow.

From here, tourists will choose between visits to esteemed restaurants such as chef John Besh's restaurant August or alternatively choose a down home joint such as the Domilise Sandwich Shop and Bar.

Stacy Brown, president of the Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau told the Associated Press: "We'll have a web site that will allow you to design your culinary trail and combine it with other things you want to do or see.

"There will also be a lot of suggestions for different types of food, different types of restaurants."

Earlier this week, the Louisiana Office of Tourism unveiled a new £3 million campaign aimed at increasing visitor numbers.

The campaign will feature local celebrities including New Orleans Hornets player Chris Paul.
