Kiss brings Scottish passengers more flights

21/01/2010

Scottish holidaymakers hit by the collapse of budget airline Flyglobespan have been offered new flights to key destinations by charter firm Kiss Flights.

The seat only operator (www.kissflights.com) will launch flights in April from Glasgow airport to several destinations previously offered by Flyglobespan, including Spain, Portugal, Greece, Cyprus and Turkey.

Kiss Flights already flies from other airports in the UK, though these will be its first flights from Scotland.

As a charter operator, it offers complete financial protection for its flights under its Air Operators Licence, managed by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

Thousands of passengers who had bought tickets with Flyglobespan were left stranded when the airline collapsed as the CAA provides no financial protection for passengers travelling on scheduled carriers on seat-only deals.

Kiss Flights from Glasgow will be operated by Swedish carrier Viking Airlines. The first services will start in April to Tenerife, Malaga, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, Faro and Las Palmas.

Services will be added throughout the summer to Corfu, Crete, Kos, Rhodes, Zante, Turkey and Cyprus.

Kiss will also offer flights from Edinburgh to Corfu, Crete and Rhodes during the peak summer months.

Although Kiss only launched in 2008, it was set up by aviation broking firm Meridian Aviation, which has been trading for more than 10 years. It launched initially on routes previously served by XL Airways, which collapsed 18 months ago.

Several former employees of Freedom Flights, a subsidiary of XL Airways, have joined Kiss Flights, including director Paul Moss.
