Its official! We Brits are in love with Spain again

31/10/2011

Prawn cocktail

It seems we Brits are in love with Spain again, with UK visitors numbers booming in 2011. According to figures published by the Spanish Tourist Board, Spain has seen a 9.2% increase in UK visitors for the first nine months of this year compared to 2010.

Buy travel insurance Spain whenever you travel to Spain to get cover for emergency medical expenses and repatriation, cancellation, baggage and travel delay.

The surge in bookings to Spain may not be entirely down to our love of Spain and more to do with us being put off the other destinations which may have tempted us away from Spain in recent years. Egypt and Tunisia have seen visitor numbers plummet due to political turmoil, and even nearby Morocco, although unaffected by the Arab Spring, has seen numbers drop significantly. Not to mention the economic situation and continuing industrial action in Greece which is affecting visitor numbers.

Figures also show that there has been an increase in package holidays to Spain, with 35.5% of all UK tourists to Spain booking a package holiday; this could be a result of recent travel disruption and insolvencies in the travel industry and customers starting to recognise the benefits of booking a bonded package holiday.

In the current economic climate, it’s more important than ever to buy travel insurance Spain as soon as you book your holiday. This will give you the maximum protection under the travel delay section of your travel insurance policy in the event of strike action. To be covered for delay due to strike action you must have booked your holiday and bought your travel insurance before any strike dates were announced.

With the recent action by Qantas staff causing them to ground all flights this weekend, and Thomas Cook cabin crew voting overwhelmingly in favour of strike action last week, it could definitely pay buy travel insurance cover as soon as possible, you never know when a strike could be announced.
