Honeymooners are 'seeking sun and adventure'

07/03/2008

Modern honeymooners tend to either desire sunshine or adventure on their post-wedding travels, according to an expert in the matter.

Wedding website hitched.co.uk cited Bangkok, Vietnam, America and Australia as popular destinations for thrill-seeking newlyweds taking their first holiday as a married couple.

"Honeymoons do vary depending on what type of couple you have, but the majority tend to go for somewhere hot and exotic," said spokesperson for hitched.co.uk, Francesca Moore.

She added that newlyweds wanting to catch a tan on holiday often opt for the Maldives as it has "white sandy beaches and crystal blue sea".

"[However] an adventure safari in the deepest bush of Africa spotting a lion or two in the morning, and then heading back to a luxurious five star spa retreat for the rest of the day suits some couples down to the ground," Francesca added.

Statistics released by the Foreign Office have revealed that seven in ten Brits now have their stag and hen nights abroad.
