Drink driving 'can have a serious impact on car insurance'

A drink driving conviction can have a serious impact on a person's car insurance premium, one expert has said.
Norwich Union advised motorists that if they do have a drink driving conviction and they fail to declare it in a bid to keep their premiums down then they risk invalidating their cover.
Erik Nelson, a spokesperson for Norwich Union, said: "A drink-driving conviction will seriously impact your premium.
"As a reminder … honesty is always the best policy!"
According to research recently published by Confused.com, 2.3 million men were convicted of driving offences in 2007, compared with 920,000 women.
However, it seems that females prefer life in the fast lane: 84 per cent of women's convictions were for speeding, compared to 73 per cent of men's.
The Department for Transport's report into road casualties in Great Britain found that 3,172 people died in road accidents in 2006 and that 258,404 people were injured.
