Cultural city breaks more popular with families

More families are choosing to take city breaks with Venice, Cairo and New York all being popular, said an expert.

People are opting for cultural city breaks over theme park and other "sugar coated" holidays, said Kirker Holidays.

Ted Wake, director of sales and marketing for Kirker Holidays, said: "We have noticed a significant increase in the number of families that are looking for holidays with a cultural twist."

He went on to say that the breaks are ideal for half term holidays as a lot can be packed into a short space of time.

Mr Wake said that Venice is popular as the water aspect is exciting for children, particularly the water taxi ride from the airport.

Egypt also proved a good choice, partly as it is on the curriculum, but also because it offers a cultural difference from England, he said.

New York proves a better option for parents with teenage children and is no less safe than London, said Mr Wake.

Price cuts predicted by the Air Transport Users Council for budget airline flights could cut the cost of a city break considerably.
