Cruises to be holiday trend of 2008

18/01/2008

Cruises are "growing in popularity" by attracting a younger market and are set to be a big holiday trend for 2008.

Clare Lilley, head of research at Holiday Which?, said that people are beginning to realise that cruises are not as restrictive as they used to be.

"You can actually see quite a lot on a 14-day cruise, and it's not the case of being stuck on a claustrophobic boat all the time," said Ms Lilley.

She went on to say that the number of ships being launched in the UK alone is "phenomenal", and that the on-board facilities are fantastic.

Honeymooning couples are starting to choosing cruising more, but it is still popular with the over 50s, said Holiday Which?.

The Passenger Shipping Association (PSA) estimated that the number of Britons taking cruises would rise to 1.5 million this year.

Last year the PSA said that people taking cruises had doubled over the last decade, from half a million in 1997 to 1.2 in 2007.
