Check-in and baggage charges on the up for Ryanair

25/01/2008

Ryanair has increased the price it costs to check-in and take a bag on a plane to encourage people to use its online services.

The cost of checking in a bag online is up from £5 to £6, and using the check-in desk now costs £3, a one pound increase from previously.

Passengers wanting to check baggage in at the airport will now be charged £12, instead of £10 per item.

The Irish based company also said that the hikes would not be the last, until 50 per cent of their customers use the internet for flight bookings and only use hand baggage.

Peter Sherrard, company spokesperson, said: "These increased charges will incentivise even more passengers to use our free web check-in service allowing us to cut airport and handling costs."

Ryanair, which flies from more than 20 airports in the UK said that it was expecting 60 million passengers in 2008, ten million more than last year.

A Holiday Which? expert warned this week that people should check the small print when booking on budget airlines to avoid paying extras.
