Canary Islands 'dominate winter sun hotspots'

New research has shown that the Canary Islands are most popular for holidaymakers seeking winter sun.

In the top ten most searched destinations on Cheapflights.co.uk were Tenerife, Lanzarote and Gran Canaria.

However long haul destinations also saw some popularity with Bangkok coming second in the list, and Orlando and Dubai coming in third and fourth.

Francesca Ecsery, general manager at Cheapflights, said: "January is a great time to grab a bargain. Flight sales are everywhere so travellers have the choice between thousands of destinations at a very low cost."

She went on to say that the end of Christmas and January Blues led a lot of people looking for holidays at this time of year.

Barbados, Goa, Cape Town and Sharm El-Sheikh also came on the list for sun-seekers in January.

Portugal and Turkey have also had a lot of early bookings this year, according to the Association of British travel Agents.
