Canadians are last minute travel insurance bookers

Canadians have been exposed as last minutetravel insurance bookers by a recent survey.
According to a poll conducted by TravelInsuranceQuotes.ca, 18 per cent of Canadian holidaymakers arrange their travel insurance within two days before their departure.
Furthermore, 50 per cent of these globetrotters requested travel insurance quotations on the day they left for their holidays.
Dominic Chan of TravelInsuranceQuotes.ca said: "For emergency medicaltravel insurance, we advise travelers to buy as soon as they confirm their trip schedule … especially during August to October."
He added that early autumn is normally a cheaper time to purchase insurance, therefore "snowbirds should take advantage of these early bird specials" and buy prior to the annual rate increase.
The research, however, revealed that most Canadian holidaymakers do exercise foresight when insuring themselves against unexpected events abroad; 60 per cent of those polled had requested a travel insurance quotation 60 days ahead of their trip.
Last month, STA travel urged holidaymakers to thoroughly evaluate their insurance options before heading off on gap years.
It noted that travellers should outline clearly what activities they will be undertaking while on foreign shores, in order to avoid invalidating their policies.
