Camping appealing to more Britons

More and more British holidaymakers are getting a taste for the great outdoors, new research has revealed.

According to figures from the Camping and Caravanning Club, increasing numbers of Britons are shunning the charms of air-conditioned hotels and room service for the more rough and ready appeal of campsite holidays.

Data from the Club showed that there were 2.1 per cent more campers on British sites than last year.

Meanwhile, in October alone numbers were up 7.2 per cent compared with same month last year.

Matthew Eastlake, of the Camping and Caravanning Club, commented: "The Club is finding the trend towards taking UK holidays under canvas is on the increase - more so now than for many years.

"New styles of tent and better equipment are paving the way to more campers spending their leisure time doing what they want to when they want to.

He added: "It's about the freedom to have an adventure without the hassles of planning months in advance."
