Business travellers losing high-tech devices

07/11/2007

Up to 8,500 items of costly high-tech equipment are misplaced by business travellers at UK airports annually, it has been revealed.

According to figures from SafeNet, the highest incidence of loss of such items is at airports in London, with travellers at the UK's business hub misplacing 400 laptops and 2,500 other mobile devices every year.

Such a loss is likely to incur not just a financial pain, but could also result in the loss of confidential business information stored on devices such as BlackBerrys and USB sticks - underlining even further the importance of travel insurance, SafeNet claims.

Gary Clark of SafeNet, said: "Companies are investing large sums of money in protecting network data, only for employees to run the risk of losing it by carelessly misplacing laptops and mobile devices."

"As mobile working continues to grow across the UK and the globe, security for laptops and mobile devices is more critical than ever," he added.
